The Role
We’re looking for an experienced Garage Door Service Technician who can diagnose and repair residential and light commercial garage doors and operators independently.
We’ve been serving South Florida since 1981. We’re a small, family-owned company that believes good service means more than fixing whatever broke. Our technicians are expected to understand the customer’s needs, solve the immediate problem, and make sure the customer understands the options available to them.
We’re looking for someone who knows the trade, takes pride in their work, communicates well, and can be trusted to represent our company professionally in the field.
What You’ll Do
You’ll run service calls primarily throughout Broward and Palm Beach counties, with occasional work in Miami-Dade.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Diagnose and repair residential garage doors and operators
- Service light commercial garage doors and operators
- Replace springs, cables, rollers, bearings, hinges, drums, tracks, and related hardware
- Install, replace, program, and troubleshoot garage door openers
- Identify safety concerns, worn components, and potential future problems
- Educate customers about their existing system and available options
- Recommend repairs when they’re appropriate
- Offer upgrades and improvement options that may benefit the customer—even when they aren’t required to complete today’s repair
- Provide honest, professional recommendations without high-pressure sales tactics
- Clearly explain repair and replacement options
- Document completed work with photos and job notes using company apps
- Maintain a clean and organized service vehicle
- Communicate effectively with customers, the office, and other field employees
What We’re Looking For
This is not an entry-level position. You should have enough professional garage door experience to handle most residential service calls independently.
Requirements:
- Minimum 1 year of professional garage door experience
- No formal education requirement. We value demonstrated ability, reliability, and relevant trade experience over degrees or diplomas.
- Strong residential garage door and opener diagnostic skills
- Ability to complete common repairs independently
- Valid driver’s license
- Driving record acceptable to our insurance carrier
- Reliable transportation to our Oakland Park office
- Ability to lift 75+ lbs regularly
- Comfortable working on ladders and in South Florida heat and weather
- Own basic hand tools and power tools
- Smartphone capable of running company job and communication apps
- Dependable and punctual
- Able to work independently without constant oversight
- Professional communication with customers and coworkers
Light commercial garage door and operator experience is preferred but not required.
The Kind of Technician We’re Looking For
Technical ability matters, but so does how you approach the job.
We want someone who:
- Shows up on time and ready to work
- Takes ownership of their service calls
- Diagnoses instead of guessing
- Takes pride in quality workmanship
- Notices things other people overlook
- Communicates instead of leaving the office guessing
- Treats customers and their property with respect
- Is comfortable discussing options and opportunities with customers
- Can make recommendations without becoming pushy or sales-driven
- Is self-motivated and doesn’t need someone constantly looking over their shoulder
Our Approach to service and sales
We don’t want technicians who only fix what’s broken and leave, and we don’t want salespeople who try to sell customers everything they possibly can. We believe there’s a better approach.
Our technicians are expected to be skilled tradespeople and knowledgeable professionals. That means solving today’s problem while also educating customers about their system, recommending necessary repairs, and offering products or improvements they may benefit from.
Sometimes that means recommending a repair. Sometimes it means letting a customer know about a newer opener, an insulated garage door, or another improvement they didn’t know was available.
The customer makes the decision. Our job is to make sure they have the information and options to make a good one.
Pay & Schedule
- $22–$27 per hour, based on experience and ability
- Additional performance-based earning opportunities
- Approximately 30–40 hours per week depending on workload
- Monday–Friday
- Typical workday approximately 7:30 AM–3:30 PM, although field schedules vary
- Occasional overtime or Saturday work when needed
Benefits & Equipment
- Partial employer contribution toward health insurance
- Paid Time Off (PTO)
- Paid holidays
- Bonus and additional earning opportunities
- Tips
- Company service vehicle during work hours
- Company-provided ladders and job-specific/specialty equipment
Technicians are expected to provide their own basic hand tools and power tools.
